Students conduct successful SAFETY FAIR

Gerri McDaniel  January 31, 2020  Local NMB Times News

After several months gathering information and preparing their poster boards, the students at Current Transitions conducted a Safety Fair to communicate what they had learned to parents, staff and members of the community.

The students selected very diverse topics including fire safety, internet safety, video game safety, food safety, sports injuries and medication safety. During preparation for the fair, local experts were invited to teach safety segments at Current Transitions and answer questions from the students.

For example, a detective from the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety provided information about home and online security and how to contact and interact with police. Also, four crew members from Horry County Fire Rescue – Station 2 visited the center and discussed home fire safety including what to do in case of a fire. They also demonstrated the equipment and protective clothing used when fighting a fire.

The Safety Fair itself was an immense success with the students excited to explain what they had learned to parents, staff and visitors. A highlight for the students was when four first responders from Horry County Fire Rescue visited the fair and spoke with each student about his or her poster.
